Coghead iPhone App: The Making

The script reads the same every week for CSI – something bad happens and then some really smart people figure out “who done it”. Shows like CSI and Law & Order demystify forensics, making ordinary people feel that they could actually go out and investigate crime. My goal in the next few minutes is to help you understand the details behind a fully branded Coglet implementation and make you realize that any tech savvy business person can use Coglets to create a rich, dynamic web site backed by Coghead.

I will use the Office 2.0 iPhone provisioning process as an example. As many of you know, ITRedux is giving away an iPhone to all eligible attendees of the Office 2.0 conference. Ironically, Apple made the acquisition of the iPhones less than simple, as they had to be ordered one at a time, instead of in a bulk quantity of 500+. Ismael Ghalimi from ITRedux approached Coghead to help them automate and manage critical parts of the process. We, of course, said yes. Read on to learn how we did it...

Coglets: An In Depth Look

We just announced Coglets - a way to embed a slice of a Coghead application into any web page.  Some use the term widget to describe Coglets, others use gadget.  I don't care what the buzz word of the day is, I will simply say that they rock.  Coglets are fast, functional, simple, and accessible anywhere (even on an iPhone -- sweet...)

All applications in Coghead can be accessed via Coglets -- you simply need to construct the URL following the syntax of "Account -> App -> Collection -> View".  Coglets support additional parameters in the URL including the type of authentication, view mode, and cacheing.  In the next week, we will even have a URL generator.  Let me quickly step you through the process for creating a Coglet.
